The CANLOAN remembrance project

In honour of the Canadian Junior Officers who volunteered for overseas duty 1943-1945, as part of British regiments.

About us

The CANLOAN Remembrance Project is a private, non-profit initiative founded by Cas Horstman, dedicated to honouring the memory of the Canadian junior officers who volunteered for the CANLOAN program, a unique arrangement established between the Canadian and British armies in 1943.
The project’s mission is to create a comprehensive online memorial, preserving both the individual stories of the CANLOAN officers and the broader history of the CANLOAN scheme. By collecting personal accounts, service records, and historical context, the project seeks to ensure that the legacy of these remarkable men is remembered and accessible for future generations.
In doing so, the CANLOAN Remembrance Project aims to carry forward the work once done by the CANLOAN Army Officers Association, ensuring that the sacrifice, service, and spirit of the CANLOANs are not forgotten.
